Jam Jar Happiness Blanket CAL WEEK 6A

Week 6 A Border - Wild Flower Meadow

Needed: 8 stitch markers

Use the same hook as for the blanket part.

Colours used

Koala

Pumpkin

Pistachio

Teal

Berry

Turquoise

These are the colours we will be using for the border, as you will have more left of these with Koala being the exception. This is quite an inconspicuous colour and that is why we are using it for the invisible part of the border. Check the table for the colour use.

Part 1 Slipstitch all around in Koala

Round 0: Start in the middle of a short side, pull the yarn in between two DCs and placing your SS around the posts of the DCs, work your way to the corner and make sure you designate which stitches will be your corner stitches with a stitch marker on the front and the back.

This will help you when doing the border itself. Make sure they are as much as possible in the corner. Work your way along the long side, finding locations to place your SS, ensuring you don’t do too many stitches but also making sure your blanket still lays flat.

Remember, less is more for the border. When you meet your first SS again, cut off the yarn and work an invisible stitch to close the round. You should have 4 corners with two stitch markers each (one on front side and one on back side).

TIP!

In addition to placing a stitch marker in the corners, it might be an idea to mark the stitches which you do onto the Koala rows, that way you will know which are the strands of your slipstitch to be picked up later!

Part 2 Back Border

Colours used

Pistachio, Pumpkin

Make sure the blanket is facing you with the one strand of the slipstitch towards you.

Round 1: Using Pumpkin, make a SK, starting anywhere on the blanket, YO, and insert your hook under the back bump of the slipstitch and do a HDC (=STHDC), then continue by placing 1HDC all around the blanket under every back bump.  When you meet the slipstitch in the corners with the stitch marker, you do 2HDC 1CH 2HDC in that slipstitch.

SS to close the round.

Tip: twist your hook to get under the strand of the stitch easily!

Round 2: CH2, 1 HDC in each stitch all the way round, corners are made up of 2HDC 1CH 2HDC placed in the CHSP of the previous row. SS to close the round. Fasten off the colour.

Round 3: In Pistachio, make a SK, starting with a STSC, place 1SC in each stitch all the way round, corners are made up of 2SC 1CH 2SC placed in the CHSP of the previous row. SS to close the round.

Round 4: CH2, place 1HDC in each stitch all the way round, corners are made up of 2HDC 1CH 2HDC placed in the CHSP of the previous row. SS to close the round. Fasten off the yarn.

Please note!

Make sure your corners don’t start going out, you might want to skip the stitch right before and/or right after the corners but if you do, remember to do the same in the front border later on.
