To recreate Karen's blanket, you will need 15 balls of Stylecraft Special Aran yarn or you can purchase the complete yarn pack. You also need a Hook 5mm (or the hook you like to use for Aran)

This is the written out pattern 

Stitch Pattern:

Row 0: SK, CH 145. (=multiple of 8 plus 1)

Row 1: CH1, turn, 3DC in CH145, skip the next 3 CH, 1 SC in the next CH, 

* sk 3CH, 5 DC in the next CH, sk 3 CH, 1 SC in the next CH; rep from * to the last 4 CH, skip the next 3 CH, 3 DC in the last CH,

Row 2: CH 1, turn, 1 SC in first st, 

* CH3, DC5TOG over the next 5 sts, CH 3, 1 SC in the next st * ;  repeat * - * ending the last SC on top of the last st.

Row 3: CH1, turn, 3 DC in first st, * 1 SC in the next st (=top of DC5TOG), 5 DC in next SC (from previous row)* , repeat *- * to end, 3 DC in the last st.

Repeat rows 2 & 3 for the pattern.

Border instructions

Round 4     CH1, 1SC in first st, 1SC in next st, 1 Spike SC in next st, repeat all along each side,  and place 2SC, 1CH, 2SC in the 

                   corners

Round 5    CH1, 1SC in each st around, 2SC, 1CH, 2SC in the corners

Please note

Do not do the spike SC too tight, pull it up, wriggle it a bit so it lays nicely along the fabric.
