LIZZIE BLANKET CAL WEEK 1: JANE

LIZZIE BLANKET CAL WEEK 1: JANE

Lizzie Blanket CAL

Introduction

Thank you for taking part in our Lizzie CAL, inspired by my favourite film Pride and Prejudice. Watching the film one day I noticed how glorious the colours of the film were and really it deserves an Oscar just for the colours they used.

So I have translated the main colours of the film into the Stylecraft Special DK colours and I devised a clever system of stitches and weekly episodes.

Welcome, Lizzie!

General information

Needed

  • DK yarn hook 4 or 3.5 (I use a 3.5 but the yarn is prescribed as a 4)
  • Stitch Markers
  • Scissors
  • Lizzie Colour Pack or 15 balls of DK yarn

Please note

Turning chains

We are going to use the turning chain of CH1, then disregarding it and using the same stitch the ch1 came out of for our first st after turning. Place a stitch marker in the first stitch after you have made it.

Stitch markers

Use a stitch marker in the first stitch you make in the row so you don’t skip it when you come to the end of the next row.  This will help you to keep the correct amount of stitches for each row.

Colours

I have made tables with the colours for each week, you will have to change colours for every row, but don’t worry, there will be no ends to sew in for this blanket. It’s magic!

Counting your stitches

As we are doing different things in each row, it is easy to lose stitches. I suggest you count your repeats in the ‘special’ rows.

So you only have to count to 64 or 96 or 38. That way you keep on top of checking that you are still doing the correct amount of stitches in each row. Using stitch markers will also be a great help.

General Key (Please check weekly keys)

(American terminology)

Videos

Each week there will be a video explaining the pattern. These videos will remain available forever.

Pattern

There are six parts to the pattern divided over six weeks. There will be a video for each week and there will be two videos for week 6.

The written pattern will be available on the blog and also as a proper pattern after the CAL has finished for sale on my website.

Multiples

The stitch repeats used in this blanket use a multiple of 2 and 3 so you need to make sure that the amount of stitches can be divided by 3 and 2 and then you add 2.

Week 1: Jane

To get started, I would like to recommend you make a sampler of 32CH in any colour of yarn you happen to have (don’t use the CAL yarn!).

Do each row once as I do them in the video and then you have an actual stitch reminder for that week. When we get to Week 6, we will use this sampler for trying out the border.

You can also use this sampler as a reference for another pattern I have in mind which will come out after the CAL has finished.

In other words, it’s worth making it.

Check out the video instructions for this week here

Please note

We won’t necessarily use every colour this week so don’t worry.

Turning chain: CH1 is used for our turning CH, this chain is then disregarded and just not used anymore, you do however place your first st of the row in the same stitch that CH1 is coming out ofPlace a stitch marker in it after creating this very first stitch so you know which stitch is your last one when you come back.

Changing colour: undo or don’t do the last pull through of the last st, and just start using the next colour.
