Mystery CAL 2021 Week 3: Fields of Flowers

Week 3: Fields of Flowers

Introduction

This week we are making squares and rows, creating two rectangles representing fields of flowers.

Pattern

In total this week, we are making 24 Ophelia Squares, joining them in two lots of 12 and going round them with dainty clusters so we end up with two rectangular tiles. Remember to go to the table for your colours! You do the table twice, hence why there are two tick boxes each time.

Repeat the below instructions twice.

Make 12 squares according to the colour table

Round 1 SK, CH5, SS to make a circle, CH2, 15DC into the circle, SS, fasten off. (16)

Round 2 SK, YO, insert under any V, and do *2DC 2CH 2DC, 1HDC in the next 3st, and then in the next st,* repeat *-* another 3 times, SS to close the round, fasten off. (36)

Round 3 SK, YO, insert into a corner CHSP, *2DC 2CH 2DC into the CHSP, (CH1, sk1, 1DC in the next st), repeat (-) twice more, CH1 sk1*, repeat *-* another 3 times, SS to close the round, fasten off. (52)

Round 4 JAYG SK, YO, insert into a corner CHSP, *2DC 2CH 2DC into the CHSP, sk1, 1DC in the next 9 st, sk1*, repeat *-* another 3 times, SS to close the round, fasten off. (60)

Join as you go.

Make the squares according to the colour instructions, one at a time, in number order. Square 1 is done completely (all 4 rounds).

From Square 2 onwards you are going to use Round 4 to join the square you are working on to the previous square. You start by doing one corner and one side on the current square, then upon starting the next corner, you do half the corner (2DC and 1CH) and then you join it to the corner of the previous square with a SS into the CHSP of the corner. Then complete the corner (1CH and 2DC) on the square you were working on. Skip two DCs on the previous square and do a SS in between the 2nd and 3rd DC. Now start doing the stitches along the side on the current square and every 3rd DC you go over to the previous square and skip 3DCS and insert to do a SS. Continue like this along your side. You skip 2DCs at the corners.

From Square 7 you start your second row and from Square 8 you will be attaching on two sides and will be joining the middle of the corner to the CHSP of the corner opposite it. Then also attach the second side.

Then complete the remainder of round 4, SS to close the round.

Look for the colours in the table and join the squares as you go, working your way in order number. There are two sets of tick boxes as you have to repeat the process twice.

Look for the colours in the table and join the squares as you go, working your way in order number.

You now have 12 squares joined together in two rows of six squares.

Now you are going to place Dainty Clusters around the tile of squares.

Round 1  SK, YO, insert into a corner CHSP, then {do a corner of 2DC 2CH 2DC, then *sk 2, and place a dainty cluster of 2DCs in between the DCs of the row below (but in one location which looks more convenient along the side of the square you are going to sk3)* repeat *-* to joined CHSPs, right before the CHSP you sk2, sk CHSP and place 2DCs into the join of the two squares, (skipping both CHSP before and after) then repeat from the first * until you reach the corner of the large square}.

Work the four sides repeating the instructions in the { }.

When you meet the first corner you did, SS and fasten off the yarn.

You should now have 13 clusters on the short sides and 37 clusters on the long sides, 100 clusters in total.

Round 2 SK, YO, inserting in between two clusters from round 1, start placing clusters of 2DCs in between the clusters, placing 2DC 2CH 2DC in the corner CHSPs. SS to close the round.

Round 3 - 9 Repeat round 2

List of colours

Follow the order indicated in the table below.

You now have 21 clusters on the short sides and 45 on the long sides, 132 clusters in total. Remember to sew in your ends.

Repeat this whole process. (There are two locations to place your ‘Done’ ticks, one for each repeat.)

You now have 2 identical large rectangles with 21 clusters on the short side and 45 on the long sides, 132 in total. Remember to sew in your ends.

This week is a tiny more complicated as we are making squares as well as doing rows, but once the squares are done you can relax doing the rounds of Dainty Clusters! I hope you enjoy this week! Anja xxx
