Mystery CAL 2021 Week 6 B: Assembly Part 3, 4 and 5

Mystery CAL 2021 Week 6 B: Assembly Part 3, 4 and 5

Week 6 B Assembly

Part 3

Assembly

Lay out your panels like this (See ‘Week’ indications in the diagram below).

Make sure you turn the bag so the sewn handles are on the inside and tuck the handles inside with it, and the SC row is on the outside, with the flower facing up. Check where the opening is positioned.

Please Note: if you don’t have the bag just place a Week 4 square instead of the bag in the diagram.

Work in the order indicated on the diagram with the big bold numbers

1

Week 3 is assembled by another row of Dainty Clusters JAYG (see explanation below) to the adjacent parts! In Mocha. The Dainty Clusters are represented by the fat green line. You do the four sides attaching to the adjacent parts (See diagram)

When you attach the third side alongside the bag part, pick up around the SCs and the Clusters as you are used to.

Please Note: if you don’t have the bag here you just work along the side of the square as a normal square

2

Week 3 is assembled by another row of Dainty Clusters JAYG to the adjacent parts! In Mocha. The Dainty Clusters are represented by the thick green line. You do the four sides attaching to the adjacent parts (See diagram)

3

Week 5 is assembled doing the short sides as Dainty Clusters JAYG (fat red line). You start next to the bag so make sure that you only attach to the bottom one layer of the bag part. So the bag stays open and lays on top.

Please Note: if you don’t have the bag here you just work along the side of the square as a normal square

You are going to do the long side as Fake JAYG (see explanation below) (thin red line). So do your corner SS, CH and 2SS along the stitches and link to connect with SS along the long side.

important in the middle of this row, where your two Week 5 squares meet, skip the CHSPs but attach in between the two squares.

At the end there will be a gap, CH2 and connect into the corner with a SS, then do a DC right next to the CH2 you just did and now you are ready to start doing your Dainty Clusters again to fill in the gap working another JAYG on the short side. You only do three sides here.

Week 5 is assembled doing the short sides as Dainty Clusters JAYG (fat red line) and the long side as Fake JAYG (thin red line). So do your corner SS, CH and 2SS along the stitches and link to connect with SS along the long side.

At the end there will be a gap, CH2 and connect into the corner with a SS, then do a DC right next to the CH2 you just did and now you are ready to start doing your Dainty Clusters again to fill in the gap! Then work another JAYG on the short side. You only do three sides here.

Explanation

Dainty Clusters JAYG

You start your round of Dainty clusters and then when you come to the corner ready to join, you do half the corner (2DC and 1CH) and then you join it to the corner of the other square with a SS into the CHSP of the corner. Then complete the corner (1CH and 2DC) on the current square. Skip 2DCs on the other square and do a SS in between the 2DCs and 1st cluster on the other square. Now start doing the clusters along the side of your current square and each time after each dainty cluster do a SS in between the clusters on the other square. (22 clusters)

Then complete the corner by doing 2DC, 1CH, SS to the opposite CHSP, 1CH, 2DC and continuing the side like before linking with SS after every cluster

Fake JAYG (or slipstitch join)

Instead of doing the DCs for the clusters you are doing ss along the top of the DCs of the previous round and linking it with a SS after each ‘cluster’.

Et voila!!!! You now have a blanket that can be folded into its own attached carrier bag.

Part 4 (Optional)

You can make an extra flower, and attach it to the wrong side of the Square so that when your bag has the blanket in it there are flowers on both sides. There is no flower on the underside of the blanket itself.

Choose the colours you like best or have the most leftovers from.

3D flower

Round 1

SK, CH5, SS to make a circle, CH2, 15DC into the circle, SS, fasten off. (16)

Round 2

SK, working only in the front loops of round 1, pick up any front loop and do a SC, *in the next st (FLO!) place 1HDC 3DC 1HDC, in the next st 1SC*, repeat *-* 8 times until you have used all the FL and you have 8 petals. Instead of the last SC you SS into the very first one you did. Fasten off colour.

Attach the flower to the bag.

Part 5 (!!!!Compulsory!!!!)

Take your blanket with you, out on a little walk in your area, find a lovely spot and spread open the blanket and sit on it a while contemplating your hard work and the fact that you are now enjoying the fruits of your labour.

You can also place it on a bench in the park or wherever you happen to be going. Take a picture of it with or without you on it and post it in our Facebook Group Ophelia Talks Crochet. #mysteryCAL2021
