PONCHO IN A DAY
Poncho In A Day
Intro
And suddenly the cold weather is upon us and we are feeling the cold. A poncho seems like a good idea. This poncho was designed so you can make it in a day. It will keep you warm on a chilly day. Using a Super Chunky Yarn like JCB Husky will ensure your fabric grows quickly.
Needed
Hook 12
Scissors
Darning needle
Yarn for a MEDIUM size poncho
I used 7 balls of Husky (Super Chunky) I used Adventure
To make this poncho bigger you will just have to do more rows, the neck opening will be the same size. You will need to use more balls if you are going to make it bigger,
Small 5-6 balls
Medium 6-7 balls
Large 8-9 balls
Multiples
The neck opening can be reduced or enlarged by doing less or more stitches if needed but generally you don’t need to unless making this for a child.
Multiple is 2
Measurements
My poncho weighs 680g
Method
PS: chains in the tips are NOT counted as stitches, the CH2 at the start of the row is counted as a DC (with the SS as its top).
Round 1 SK, CH52, (making sure your chain is not twisted by first chaining 10, then taking your hook out of the loop, inserting it into the first CH made, reinserting into the loop and continuing with 42CH, then pull the loop through the first CH and you should have 52Vs. [26 inch / 65 cm approx]
Round 2 CH2 (this will be your last st of the round), 2DC 2CH 2DC in the next st, 1DC in the next 25 st, 2DC, 2CH 2DC in the next st, 1DC in the next 24 st, SS over the CH to create your 25th st (58DC)
Round 3 CH2, 1DC in each st until you reach the CHSP, into the CHSP you place 2DC 2CH 2DC, then again do 1DC into each st until you reach the other CHSP where you place 2DC 2CH 2DC, continue with 1DC into each st until you complete the round, SS to close the round (66DC)
Round 4 CH2, 1BLODC in each st until you reach the CHSP, into the CHSP you place 2DC 2CH 2DC, then again do 1BLODC into each st until you reach the other CHSP where you place 2DC 2CH 2DC, continue with 1BLODC into each st until you complete the round, SS to close the round (74DC)
Round 5 repeat round 3
Round 6 repeat round 4
Round 7 - ?20 repeat round 3 and 4 alternating until you reach your desired length
Add tassels if you want to, remembering they add length.
Each round adds 8 DCs.
When a ball of yarn ends, simple knot the end of the yarn with the strand of the new ball together in a knot and leave the ends hanging out, crochet over this and weave in at the end.
Sew in ends.
